It’s a great pleasure to curate this special weekend of activity, celebrating writers and writing in partnership with John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton, NST, and Southampton Cultural Development Trust from the heart of the Cultural Quarter at Studio 144.
As we work towards establishing Southampton as a City of Literature, it’s important to recognise how creative writing fills the lives of people in this city, from grassroots levels through to publication and performance. With this in mind, SO: To Speak 2018 celebrates new voices emerging from the SO:Write project alongside more established names from around the UK.
From Friday through to Sunday our programme offers something for everyone with performances from the local community alongside some of the UK’s hottest poetic property. We’re delighted to welcome Burning Eye Books, Penned in the Margins, and Nine Arches Press to John Hansard Gallery, along with special guests including hip hop legend and musical maestro, Dizraeli who will be topping the bill in the NST Studio.
None of this would be possible without the hard work of our volunteers and the team working behind the scenes to ensure SO: To Speak runs as smoothly as possible. Thanks to everyone who made this year’s event happen, and in particular, to Arts Council England for their continued support. We hope you enjoy the show.
